Best's Academy

About the Instructor

Johnathan Best was born on July 3rd, 1992 in Amory, MS. He graduated from Hatley High School in 2010 and went on to study at Itawamba Community College, as well as Mississippi University for Women. He Graduated from MUW in August 2016 with a Bachelor's Degree in Theatre. He is currently working for Cumulus Radio in Columbus as the Production and Imaging Director as well as an On Air Personality. He has been working there for 5 years.

Johnathan is a Third Degree Black Belt in the World Tang Soo Do Association. He began training at the age of 12 under Master William Johnson at East Mississippi Tang Soo Do in Amory, MS. Over the years, his love for the art of Tang Soo Do and The World Tang Soo Do Association grew. He knew that he wanted to carry the traditions that he has learned onward for the rest of his life and share that love, passion, and happiness he felt for the art with students of his own. On December 1st, 2016, that dream was realized and Best's Academy of Martial Arts was opened.

The past

"I reflect on my time as a colored belt often. I remember being nervous about promotional test, the hunger I felt for going up to that next rank, and the overwelming sense of accomplishment I felt when Master Johnson wrapped a new belt around my waist. More than all of that, I remember the great mood that I always left the studio in. No matter what kind of day I was having, or what was going on in my life at that time, I could leave it all behind when I stepped out onto the Dojang floor."

The Present

"My dream is finally realized, and I am overwhelmingly happy to say that I have a studio of my own. However, I also understand that I now have a tremendous responsibility, and I work everyday to be certain that I am providing the people of the Columbus-Starkville area with best martial arts training possible."

the future

"I hope you join us as we march forward into the future and help us grow and expand Best's Academy of Martial Arts. I attend multiple clinics and camps every year working with Masters from around the world so that I can obtain as much knowledge as possible to pass on to my students. I do not plan on stopping. I look forward to wherever the future may take me, but I more look forward to the journey taking me there."
